After the verification of the permit
by a representative of Iran Arms and
Ammunitions Office, the guns and
other related stuff brought into the
country are assessed to determine
the amount of deposits which are to
be left by Iran Customs and the air
port.
However, the deposit with Iran
Environment Organization is bid
according to the animal which is
aimed to prey. The deposit for those
hunters coming to hunt either wild
boar or birds is approximately 2800
dollars and for those who want to
hunt any other quadruped mammal is
16700 dollars.
The deposits remain with Iran
Environment Organization till the
end of the tour and then according
to the measures of trophy and a
tariff set by the organization a
part of this deposit is deducted as
the cost of the hunt and the rest is
paid back to the agency.
"When the hunt is finished, the
guard who accompanies them during
the hunt will measure the trophies
and then put the fur and the head of
the hunted animal in a box and seal
it.
Once the fees are deducted and
the deposit is released, the box
will be
sent to the hunter's address
outside Iran," added Karami.
The trophy of horned species is
assessed based on the length of
their horns. Wild rams, for
instance, depending on their breed
and the length of their horns may
cost variably from 1200 dollars to
5500 dollars.
Karami also asserted
that the hunting tariff and prices
in Iran are relatively higher as
compared to those of some other
neighboring countries like
Afghanistan and Pakistan, which have
caused these countries to enjoy a
larger number of foreign hunters.
"Last year we only issued 192
hunting permits for foreign hunters
which is far less than the capacity
and potentials we have in the
country," noted he, "so to attract
more tourists and foreign hunters to
Iran, these tariff and prices are to
be revised this year."
He also indicated that this year
hunters can bring up to 20
cartridges with themselves while
this limit was set on a maximum of
10 cartridges in previous years.
The hunting season in Iran commences
on September 23 and lasts until
February 4, however the high season
of foreign hunters normally
coincides with January holidays.
